No-fault wage loss calculator

Enter your crash date and income. The calculator applies the 85% rule, the monthly cap for your crash date, and any income you still earn.

–

Example values shown; replace them with yours. A 30-day period is treated as 30/365 of a year. Self-employment income is calculated differently; talk to us before relying on this figure.

The rules the calculator applies

  • 85% of gross income you would have earned if you had not been hurt (MCL 500.3107(1)(b)).
  • A cap per 30 days fixed by your crash date: $7,455 for accidents from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, and $7,201 for accidents from October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026.
  • Earnings count against the cap. The benefit plus what you still earn cannot exceed the cap.
  • Three years from the date of the crash, then it stops.

The calculator holds the caps for crashes from October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2027, as listed in DIFS Bulletin 2026-20-INS. For a crash outside that range it shows no figure instead of guessing.

Questions people ask us

Why does PIP pay only 85% of my wages?

Because no-fault wage loss benefits are not taxed. The 15% reduction approximates the tax you would have paid. If you can show your real tax advantage is smaller, the insurer may owe a higher percentage.

I went back to work part-time. Do I still get anything?

Yes, if your combined pay and benefit stay under the monthly cap. What you earn after the crash counts against the cap, so the benefit shrinks as your earnings rise.

What happens to wages above the cap?

PIP does not pay them. Income you lose above the cap, or after three years, can be claimed from the at-fault driver as excess economic loss.
