Making a Michigan no-fault claim with Farmers

Report the crash on Farmers’s official claims page, then send Farmers its written application for no-fault benefits within one year. Here is how each step works in Michigan.

Who pays and how to start

To start a Michigan PIP claim with Farmers, report the crash through Farmers’s claims channels, then send Farmers its written application for no-fault benefits. Under Michigan’s priority rules, Farmers usually pays your PIP benefits if it insures you, your spouse or a relative who lives with you. Fault does not decide which company pays. See which insurer pays.

Court opinions usually name the company as Farmers Insurance Exchange.

How to report a claim to Farmers

Farmers’ claims page says you can report a claim online, over the phone or through the Farmers mobile app. The online claim takes a few minutes and asks for your policy number. The page lists the Farmers Claims Center at 1-800-435-7764, and a “View claim status” link shows status, documents and payments.

Official claims page: www.farmers.com/claims/. Reporting the crash opens a claim number. It does not replace the written application for benefits.

Michigan steps that apply to every insurer

  1. Application for benefits. Complete and return the insurer’s application. It gives the written notice MCL 500.3145 requires: your name and address, and the time, place and nature of the injury. See no-fault forms.
  2. Wage and household forms. Send employer wage verification and disability slips for wage loss, and daily logs for replacement services.
  3. Reasonable proof. Under MCL 500.3142, PIP benefits are overdue if not paid within 30 days after the insurer receives reasonable proof of the fact and amount of the loss. Overdue benefits earn 12% interest a year.
  4. One-year rules. Give written notice within one year of the crash unless the insurer has already paid. A lawsuit recovers only losses incurred in the year before it is filed, with that period tolled from a specific claim until the insurer formally denies it. Use the deadline calculator.

If payments stop, read what to do when benefits are denied.

Michigan appellate decisions involving Farmers

These are no-fault decisions in which a Farmers company was a party. Each one turned on its own facts and issues. Unpublished Court of Appeals opinions are not binding precedent under MCR 7.215(C)(1).

  • Labser PLC v Farmers Insurance Exchange, Michigan Court of Appeals, August 5, 2026 (published). Because the injured person was an owner of an uninsured vehicle and ineligible for PIP benefits, his treating providers could not maintain a direct claim under MCL 500.3112, and summary disposition for Farmers was affirmed.
  • Estate of Hendrix v Singleton, Michigan Court of Appeals, December 12, 2025 (unpublished). After the decedent’s USA Underwriters policy was rescinded for misrepresentation, the assigned claims plan assigned the survivors’ claim to Farmers. The court held the children were not innocent third parties entitled to reinstatement of the rescinded policy, and affirmed summary disposition for Farmers, including a setoff for Social Security survivors’ benefits.
  • Fosmore v Roth, Michigan Court of Appeals, February 17, 2026 (unpublished). Farmers was the appellant. The court reversed an order rescinding a Progressive Michigan policy as to the plaintiff, holding the equitable factors were misapplied and that Farmers had shown a fact question on whether the equities favored rescission, and remanded.

Questions people ask us

Do I file my PIP claim with Farmers if the other driver was at fault?

Usually you claim PIP from your own insurer, or your spouse’s or a resident relative’s, whoever caused the crash. Farmers pays only if it is first in priority under MCL 500.3114. A claim against the at-fault driver for pain and suffering is a separate claim.

What happens if Farmers does not pay within 30 days?

Benefits not paid within 30 days after Farmers receives reasonable proof are overdue and earn 12% interest a year under MCL 500.3142. If a court finds the delay or refusal unreasonable, MCL 500.3148 lets it award attorney fees as well.

Can I track my Farmers claim online?

Yes. Farmers’ claims page has a “View claim status” link that shows the status, documents and payments on a claim. Compare its payment records against the forms and bills you sent.
