Who pays and how to start
To start a Michigan PIP claim with Allstate, report the crash through Allstate’s claims channels, then send Allstate its written application for no-fault benefits. Under Michigan’s priority rules, Allstate usually pays your PIP benefits if it insures you, your spouse or a relative who lives with you. Fault does not decide which company pays. See which insurer pays.
Court opinions name several Allstate companies, including Allstate Insurance Company, Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Company and Allstate Property and Casualty Insurance Company.
How to report a claim to Allstate
Allstate’s claims page says you can file and track a claim through My Account or the Allstate mobile app, and links to a “File or track a claim” page and an auto claims page.
Official claims page: www.allstate.com/claims. Reporting the crash opens a claim number. It does not replace the written application for benefits.
Michigan steps that apply to every insurer
- Application for benefits. Complete and return the insurer’s application. It gives the written notice MCL 500.3145 requires: your name and address, and the time, place and nature of the injury. See no-fault forms.
- Wage and household forms. Send employer wage verification and disability slips for wage loss, and daily logs for replacement services.
- Reasonable proof. Under MCL 500.3142, PIP benefits are overdue if not paid within 30 days after the insurer receives reasonable proof of the fact and amount of the loss. Overdue benefits earn 12% interest a year.
- One-year rules. Give written notice within one year of the crash unless the insurer has already paid. A lawsuit recovers only losses incurred in the year before it is filed, with that period tolled from a specific claim until the insurer formally denies it. Use the deadline calculator.
If payments stop, read what to do when benefits are denied.
Michigan appellate decisions involving Allstate
These are no-fault decisions in which an Allstate company was a party. Each one turned on its own facts and issues. Unpublished Court of Appeals opinions are not binding precedent under MCR 7.215(C)(1).
- Douglas v Allstate Insurance Co, Michigan Supreme Court, July 30, 2012 (published). A family member’s ordinary household work counts as replacement services rather than attendant care, and a claimant must prove that attendant care expenses were actually incurred.
- Northland Radiology, Inc v Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Co, Michigan Court of Appeals, March 25, 2026 (published). An attempted opt-out of PIP medical coverage under MCL 500.3107d was not effective because all statutory conditions were not met, so the court reversed and remanded.
- Tarhanich v Allstate Property and Casualty Insurance Co, Michigan Court of Appeals, March 5, 2026 (unpublished). After the higher-priority insurer’s $50,000 PIP medical limit was exhausted, the injured motorcyclist could seek benefits under his own Allstate policy under MCL 500.3114(5).
- Prism Lab LLC v Allstate Insurance Co, Michigan Court of Appeals, June 17, 2025 (unpublished). A fact question existed on whether reasonable allowable expenses were incurred for a surgery, so summary disposition for Allstate was reversed.

Questions people ask us
Do I file my PIP claim with Allstate if the other driver was at fault?
Usually you claim PIP from your own insurer, or your spouse’s or a resident relative’s, whoever caused the crash. Allstate pays only if it is first in priority under MCL 500.3114. A claim against the at-fault driver for pain and suffering is a separate claim.
What happens if Allstate does not pay within 30 days?
Benefits not paid within 30 days after Allstate receives reasonable proof are overdue and earn 12% interest a year under MCL 500.3142. If a court finds the delay or refusal unreasonable, MCL 500.3148 lets it award attorney fees as well.
Can my doctor bill Allstate directly?
Yes. For treatment after June 11, 2019, MCL 500.3112 lets a medical provider make a claim and sue the no-fault insurer directly for its own bills. You still need to keep your own claim open with the application and wage and household forms.
